Textile heritage

The tradition of re-using, taking advantage of things and make something new from something old, is what women have done throughout history. The tradition of knitting and crochet has also in Ann Edlund's case, passed from grandmother and mother to daughter. Basic skills were also taught at school when Ann was a child. Then she has used these textile techniques over the years, regardless of the fashion waves. Old embroidered tablecloths become pillows and bags or placed in new clothing. Ann also crochets rugs from old sheets and makes pot holders of old T-shirts. In her studio there is also a showcase demonstrating various old things in different themes. It may be old embroidery techniques, accessories from the past, however, dolls and clothing, handmade puppets and much more, for example second hand products.

Vivan Rosenqvist

Vivan was severly injured in a train accident in Switzerland where she studied and got her leg amputated at the age of 14. She studied for a teacher but then came to devote all her time to the blind. She had a strong social engagement and a strong drive and in the 30's she started one of the first guest houses in Sweden for the blind, Solhem in Bunn. It was developped into a popular holiday paradise for the visually impaired. The business was run on a voluntary basis. Vivan gathered the funds to run it. She died in 1969 but operations at Solhem in Bunn continued until 1996.

Louice von Otter

The new Evangelical revivalist movement in and around Östanå in the second half of the 1800´s, are very closely linked with the Baroness Louise von Otter. Through her personal example and, as a hostess for religious gatherings in Östanå,she stands as something of a spiritual leader and organizer of the revival in Gränna. Reportedly, she was very determined and kept track of everything and everyone. She used to be on Östanå in the summer. She was dominant in the marriage and very religious. She was also very interested in sewing.
